Two minutes from Porta Nuova, the central station of Turin, this confectioners tempts anyone going on a journey to take with them some Torinese delicacy. The retailers of Prunotto Antonio liqueurs was set up in the same location in 1883, who also made the rich, external cornice and the precious plaster of the vault which still exists today. In 1926, Avvignano Silfredo, took over and began work on preparing the 'Confetteria Avvignano'. Nowadays, it feels as if nothing has changed since then. The plaster sign between the entrance and the window, which is made to look like bronze, has become the symbol of this prestigious place. The interior was done by Quaglino, the antiques dealer. The wooden counter, with green marble from the Alps, is decorated, as is the window furniture with festoons and strings with a variety of knots varnished in gold. Pure gold varnish and gilding is also used on the walls and ceiling. Avvignano sells the best makes of sweets, and is a great place to buy pralines, truffles and special chocolates with grappa.
